Family Matters

In this short lesson for To Kill a Mockingbird, students examine and discuss the similarities and differences between the Cunninghams and the Ewels.  After discussing their observations, students write a letter from the perspective of Miss Caroline.

  • Have students complete a Venn diagram to show the similarities and differences between the Cunninghams and the Ewels.
  • Venn-DiagramDiscuss what makes these families different.

Miss Caroline Letter

Students do the following:  Imagine you are Miss Caroline after your first day teaching in Maycomb.  Write a letter to a friend or family member in Alabama describing what happened in class and how you feel about it.
